    “Observing/trampling down” Halloween… Orthodox style

Tamara Very nicely put. Your words rendered a very difficult situation in a very peaceful way. God bless you! I just want us to remember that "the land of the free" for most of its history and is at the bedrock of its economic acheivement envied by all other nations today...was slavery...

    “Observing/trampling down” Halloween… Orthodox style

Seraphim If I may be honest; I do not agree with your approach. I am completely against any recognition of any kind for this day of evil. My extreme objection to this day offends most people so I was not going to post on this thread or similar thread anymore. It is not good but; I have no...

    worshipping freely...

St. John Chapter 4:20-24 20. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22. Ye...

    worshipping freely...

Within Christ we are to follow worship as we are 'instructed' by God. The Lord says we are to worship God "in spirit and in truth". This is very far from being "free" to worship "any way we want".

Should Orthodox Christians cast 'votes' for people of various faiths?

minasoliman Based on your response I am certain that something got lost somewhere. I think I need to re-phrase my response. I may have been over simplistic or something like that... I had no intention at all of referring to you or anyone else as being or seeming protestant in any way, shape...

Should Orthodox Christians cast 'votes' for people of various faiths?

minasoliman I am aware that we as 'christians' are in the world but not of it. This is widely taught even among protestants and other religions. I am am concerned more so with the Holy Church. I am not a person who equates being "christian" with being part of th Holy Church. People decide...

Should Orthodox Christians cast 'votes' for people of various faiths?

It seems to me that the Holy Church is in itself set apart form the world and 'its' governments. The USA believes in 'separation of church and state'. If the body of believers are 'in' Christ which means that we are 'in' the church and 'out' of the world; how do we participate with an idea and...

Should Orthodox Christians cast 'votes' for people of various faiths?

Are you sure about this? I believe that this reading regards St.Pauls instructions to the faithful regarding the Church hierarchy and system of 'governance' that is ordained for us and that this governance rules our lives. He uses worldly metaphors like "taxes" and "governor" to attend to the...

Should Orthodox Christians cast 'votes' for people of various faiths?

I have thought much about the issue of 'voting' in a political, civil atmosphere for people who are non-adherent to the teaching of the Holy Church as it comes down to us from the Jerusalem and the Holy Apostles. It seems that our fathers who gave up their lives for Christ...the True and only...

    "bishop has no authority?"

This supposition is not correct at all. I was speaking of the fact that we must be conscious of 'what' we put on the YouTube. WE can not just put our holiest rites on display and definitely not on YouTube.

    Gambling

As regards gambling. The game of 'chance' is a challenge and not faith. We are trusting in the unknown and not Jesus Christ who we know and love; who promised that we shall not be without what we need and to put all our trust in him. The game of chance is contrary to that direct command of...

    Gambling

Exactly; the food aspect is not even the most important. It is the denial of self. Some of us like to argue this since they want to feel comfortable as "fasting orthodox" without having to suffer or appera 'wierd' to co-workers, nieghbors, friends and such. I see these same people "celebrate"...

    "bishop has no authority?"

I hope that the person who made the comment is not just being beligerant. I tend to feel that this may be so. It took a real low opinion or understanding of the Holy Church and its scared rites and practices to even film these seens. I mean they even took video behind the vail???. Shocking...
