    Chick is Dead

I always thought that Chick tracts were evangelism for people with social anxiety. You don't have to interact with anyone face to face; just leave them lying around in the bathroom or wherever people will see them. If only there were tracts with sayings of the Desert Fathers on them. Preferably...

Reminds me of a Roman Catholic saint (forget which one) who said, "Christ has no body but yours".

    Picture of the Day

In the US though, it's mostly very old men at this point (there's even a joke that the average age of a lodge member is "deceased"). I wonder if it's still growing in other countries though (especially the third world, where it might be seen as more of a novelty?) The fact that women can't be...

Estonian National Museum invites visitors to kick the Theotokos

Brazilians have been known to kick images of the Theotokos too....

Is religion the strongest possible motivator for colonizing Mars?

Humans haven’t visited the moon since the 1970s and the recent surge in public support for a manned Mars mission may not be enough to motivate explorers to leave the comfort of Earth and colonize the red planet. Patriotism, profit, and science may not be enough to encourage thousands of people...

Savitri Devi apparently was christened Greek Orthodox but ended up becoming an esoteric neo-Nazi Hindu.

    Famous Orthodox Christian Apostates

Andrey Markov in 1912 (just a little bit over a century). Markov, of Markov chain fame, was an atheist. He basically said, "Excommunicate me please" to the Russian church, and they did.

    The truth of Orthodoxy

That's true; Lutheranism is actually quite a bit more mystical than (say) Calvinism, which (along with Thomism) is what I suspect he was thinking of when he referred to Western theology.

    The truth of Orthodoxy

Sorry for necro-ing this thread, but I have to say I loved this essay.

    The Creed and the Filioque

I wonder if there are any parallels between the Filioque controversy and the more recent dispute over the so-called "ESS" (Eternal Subordination of the Son) doctrine being propagated by Calvinists and "complementarians" these days. The latter controversy, as well as the increasingly...

    The Mandela Effect

Maybe the people who think Shirley Temple died as a child just watched Tower of Terror one too many times?

The Slavic Nations' Search for God. Moscow - Third Rome

Has anyone drawn comparisons between the Josephite/Non-Possessor controversy and events in the West? I could imagine the Non-Possessors being compared to Franciscans, for instance (though the parallels are not entirely exact).

    anti-spam pornography campaign (Advertisement.)

I used to get ads for "Meet Muslim Girls" dating sites. I have never been Muslim. (Although since I live in MN, I do have friends and friends-of-friends who are Somali. So maybe that's why those ads were showing).
