    Death Metal Music

We don't think of them as satanic today. They didn't then either. But a lot of the older, more traditional crowd worried that the new styles could encourage the losses of virtue. The same happened with ragtime, with the blues, and with every time music has changed. My comparison isn't with...

    Death Metal Music

Its true what you say and there are many many songs of this genre singing about more beautiful things life (Wind beneath my wings by Sonata Arctica, sings about friendship and supporting each other through hard times). But I would also point out that the darker side of the human spirit deserves...

    Death Metal Music

Had you been living in the 18th century this would be directed toward Mozart and Beethoven, with their foul late enlightenment romanticist and sometimes nationalistic music.

    Death Metal Music

I'm really into folk and power metal: Within Temptation, Nightwish, Equilibrium, Elvenking, Eluvietie, Sonata Arctica...a bit of Amon Amarth. Also black metal (Rammstein....I shall see them live one day). Anyone into Ska? Streetlight Manifesto was the first band that exposed me to it and its...

    Struggling with faith.

I myself was convinced by reasoned arguements for theism and Orthodoxy. Many people say it was not reasoned arguements which convinced them, or apologetics, but some sort of experience. I have also had these experiences, but it was the apologia that convinced me. However, I recently read a...

    Are we truly free?

I once opened a therad about it. Finally, I conclude to two possible scenarios/answers. Choose whichever you like... God has limited His knowledge for our free will's sake. God could not know what would happen to Man, because Man did not exist and there can be no knowledge for some non-existent...

    A Crackdown on Russian Protestants

Protestantism causes alienation from Russian culture? The protestants in that video seemed very Russian to me (women wearing headscarves, etc). Anyway, who hasn't met the American Orthodox convert who grows a long beard and believes that Russias salvation lies in its restoration of the Tsar?

    Are we truly free?

I've always been bothered by a question put forth by a popular atheist writer. It amounts to this: God has created human beings with free will. Therefor, we can choose to abide by Him or to not do so. However, if we do not do so, we will enter Hell, and be in torment forever (the nature of...

Does Total Depravity Apply to the Fallen Angels?

That story is to my knowledge one of the only instances of the repentance of a fallen angel I have ever heard. I wish universal salvation were true. Unfortunately, it conflicts with Orthodoxy, especially when it comes to the fallen angels. Irish Hermit, do you know of any other sources where...

Did God create any other beings?

But not all angels are fallen, meaning that the Fathers quoted meant something different by 'the whole universe'. Therefor, there could be unfallen creatures outside of this, apart from those revealed in the Divine Revelation.

Did God create any other beings?

Is Asteriktos' comment to me or to Seraphim? Also, does that exclude any extraterrestrial civilizations before the Fall. Or after the Redemption? As well as non-angelic spirits which are not of the universe, like the angels.

Does Total Depravity Apply to the Fallen Angels?

Orthodoxy rejects the doctrine of total depravity....according to humans. However, does the doctrine apply to the fallen angels? We know that the angels were created with free will...but did those who chose to reject their Creator maintain free will? Do they have any capacity to do good (even if...

Did God create any other beings?

Thanks to everyone who answered on the ancient aliens question. I hold to the theory that, if there are aliens, they are unfallen, and protected to some extent from encountering fallen Earth. Whether or not they are aware of human activities, I wouldn't guess.

Did God create any other beings?

If the mods request, I can move this to a different thread, but I have a friend who is fascinated by the Ancient Aliens theory. Does anyone know resources that refute this, specifically the book 'Chariots of the Gods' by Erik von Daniken?

Did God create any other beings?

I have heard the three-souls distinction from many different religious people, many Christians, and quite a few Orthodox. I didn't know it was from Aristotle. I think Thomas Aquinas used it as well. Thanks Andrew, I forgot to include the Djinn as an example. I suppose the western Faeries would...
