Thoughts on "Symbols of Fertility and Nature" being tossed into the Tiber?

First, I should probably clarify. That they used the images at all during the ceremony Sts. Martin and Caesarius would be upset about. Sts. Augustine and Gregory, however, would probably just have wished that they slap a saint's name on the image and call it a day. As for Sts. Martin and...

Thoughts on "Symbols of Fertility and Nature" being tossed into the Tiber?

Eh, the language over "pagan" practices in the Christian churches over the past 2000 years has been mixed and contradictory. St. Martin of Braga and St. Caesarius of Arles would probably be upset. Not sure I can say the same for St. Augustine of Canterbury or St. Gregory of Rome.

    Marriage procedures in the church

No. I think Orthodoxy follows the usual custom in the USA where the priest performs the marriage ceremony, then goes into the back room with the couple and signs the marriage certificate with the couple. The couple prior to this, however, has to go to the courthouse to get a marriage license in...

    Physical death before the fall

Yeah, I think the matter is closed for us EO. I haven't heard anyone suggest otherwise, but that might be due to my own ignorance.

Some potent arguments for Roman Catholicism

I don't know. I'm a bit in RaphaCam's boat here. Perhaps split the difference? Internet Orthodoxy/Catholicism reveals real world personality traits in people, who might otherwise suppress those traits in the so-called "meatspace," but the internet has the uncanny tendancy to also exacerbate and...

    Physical death before the fall

What Xavier said. One of the synods in Carthage condemned the idea, and it later entered Trullo. The reason Carthage condemned it was, I believe, that it was one of the ideas that Pelagius held. But I've read contrary secondary scholarship on whether Pelagius actually held that belief recently...

Some potent arguments for Roman Catholicism

The cadaver synod was local though. Also, the Sixth Ecumenical Council was hardly "delayed" on account of waiting for Honorius to die.

Mary's sufferings at the foot of the Cross as Co-Redemptrix.

No one doubts the emotional fortitude and pain that the Theotokos had to go through. However, she does not redeem us nor does Christ need her to redeem us. This sort of emphasis on the Theotokos as the co-redemptrix reflects a remarkably poor understanding, I believe, of why the Incarnation even...

I just got banned by 1Peter5 and all of my comments there were deleted

I'm a bit of a drama queen, so I have to ask, which article did this take place?

Pope Benedict XVI's formula for Re-Union on the Papacy.

I love how so many of the Catholic threads started here, in addition to the stuff put out by many Catholic apologists, tends to overwhelmingly refer to governance and power rather than personal or communal spiritual communion/deification/theosis with God.

Another article from an ex-Orthodox (now Catholic) on OnePeterFive blog

Yeah, Seraphim Hamilton and Persefoni Elektra's comments are interesting in particular.

Another article from an ex-Orthodox (now Catholic) on OnePeterFive blog

You must understand that the request you are making is enormous. I can only hope to address the issues piecemeal. I am not a professional apologist, have no interest in that, and have very little time to spare. The most I can do is chip away at it, which I think my blog has done over time. There...

Another article from an ex-Orthodox (now Catholic) on OnePeterFive blog

Kinda late to the party, but I wrote a brief reply to the initial article. I must admit that I was pretty acrid in my response, but it seemed rather appropriate. https://shamelessorthodoxy.com/2019/07/25/on-recycling-old-vapid-arguments-timothy-flanders-the-orthodox-church/

Because he himself is sort of that as well? Or another reason? That might be it.

Your Thoughts on Fans of David Bentley Hart Facebook Group?

I was wondering if anyone else here happens to be or to have been in the past a member of the Fans of DBH Facebook Group? If so, I was wondering what your thoughts or feelings on it were, especially over the past year (but more than that is fine). I would prefer that we keep the explicit...
