Apolytikion of Nativity -- light of knowledge or wisdom?

Greetings: to all those on the New Calendar: Christ is born! Question for you, from a priest who is still a Greek hack. In the Nativity troparion -- Ἡ γέννησίς σου Χριστὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ἀνέτειλε τῷ κόσμῳ, τὸ φῶς τὸ τῆς γνώσεως· -- Is "the light of KNOWLEDGE" (as in, Knowledge OF Christ...

    Respuesta a «¡Cristo ha nacido!»

¡Saludos!

    Some help parsing Славіте

Hello! Is Славіте, the response to "Christ is Born," in the first person plural subjunctive ("Let us glorify") or the third person singular or plural imperative ("(You / You all) Glorify!"), or something else entirely? Many thanks!

Nope.  Went through hard drive.  No dice.  No recollection of domain name.

Looking for a Particular Picture, Google not cooperating...

On a blog somewhere. And definitely a priest, not a older monk (bishop, judging by staff) like what you posted.

Looking for a Particular Picture, Google not cooperating...

Howdy -- long time, no post -- Looking for a picture I thought I had saved, not having any luck finding it online -- it's an oil painting of a young (not-gray-haired) priest, cassocked, long hair, long prayer rope around his wrist, very russian looking, with cross and icons on wall behind him...

OCA Deacon Uses Beautiful Gates Entrance to Sanctuary

UN! has got it, mostly.  If the deacon's carrying something, he goes through the royal doors.  If not, he uses the deacon's doors. A breakdown of what I do: When I do the litanies in services, I use the deacon's doors.   At the little Entrance, I go through the Royal Doors with the gospel.  ...

    So what if I'm excited?

I understand that feeling.  And there have been times I've felt the "pull" of being in groups with more resources, more manpower, more activities, etc.  But I keep coming back to the thought, But this is the Church. Again, advice my mother gave me during my time when I was dating the woman who...

    So what if I'm excited?

Liza, that's so cool.  ;D Seriously, Liora, there's a honeymoon phase, to be sure, but that doesn't mean that you have to get bored and jaded later on, any more than one has to stop being in love with the person they married ten, twenty, fifty years down the road.  The way you behave may be...

Met. Jonah to be put on leave

So, typos aside... From ocanews: "Metropolitan Jonah has indeed been placed on a leave of absence, and that indeed +Nathaniel has been named as a temporary replacement."

    St. Stephen was mistaken?

Furthermore, the overall trend in biblical commentary (as far as my admittedly limited reading in the genre goes; Chrysostom, Augustine, Theophylact, Cyril of Alexandria, Origen, Ambrose, Palamas), with the exception of Origen in his Philokalia, was to harmonize, and not to excuse, the...

    St. Stephen was mistaken?

What ialmisry said, but with the "piggyback": St. Stephen, along with the other NT figures who quoted the OT, almost always quoted the Greek Septuagint translation (abbrev. LXX) over and above the Hebrew Masoretic text (abbrev. MSS), which only dates to about 1,000 years ago but which has been...

Corrections to OCA 1984 Liturgy Book?

Fits in my cassock pocket just fine.  As for marker ribbons, well, nothing a trip to the crafts store and a hot glue gun (or even Elmer's glue) couldn't fix. Would be nice, though isn't the '67 DL book similarly leather-bound?  Are Roman Missals nowadays that nicely done?
