    Possible canonization for Ioannis Kapodistrias

Apparently there is a movement to canonize the first political leader of modern Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias. Does anyone have more substantial information on this? Scanty info in the link: http://www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2013/12/dirt-from-grave-of-saint-porphyrios.html

    Supplicatory Canons

Is there a difference between a canon to a saint at matins and a supplicatory canon to the same saint that one would do at a separate paraklesis service?

The Magi (Wise Men) in OO Tradition

I've been doing research on the Magi or Wise Men online and most of it is from a Western (and late Medieval) perspective. I am looking for information from an Oriental Orthodox (and Eastern Orthodox) perspective. I'd be interested in images, quotes from your saints' lives, comemmoration dates...

    Diminuitive forms of Alexander

I know Sasha is one of the most common diminuitives of Alexander. How common is Shurik? And are there any others, particularly any more native to Ukraine. Spasibo!

Can someone identify this part of the Syriac Qurbana?

Here is a You Tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgLWE_9r3J4&feature=related It says that it's the end of the Syriac Qurbana/Liturgy. The Byzantine rite has very little time from after communion to the end of the liturgy. I'd like to know what's going on here if someone could help...

St. Gregory of Narek's "Speaking with God from the Depths of the Heart"

I suppose this could just as easily go under book reviews, too, but I just had to say how much I have benefited reading this book. It is available online for free in e-form here: http://www.stgregoryofnarek.am/ For those who don't know, it is a collection of compunctionate prayers written by an...

    The Agpeya and Coptic "Breviary"

I just received a copy of "The Agpeya: The Coptic Book of Hours," edited by Fr. Matthias Farid Wahba and published by St. Antonius Coptic Orthodox Church of the San Francisco Bay Area. It's the 1999 Second Edition. I like this volume very much, but I wonder if it is complete. It certainly reads...

    Syriac Liturgy in English

Hello, I've really enjoyed watching You Tube videos of Syriac liturgy--a couple in English, and I have a nice CD of liturgy at St. Mark's in Jerusalem. But I was wondering if anyone here knew of a video or CD and text of Syriac Liturgy in English. I have seen several East Syriac liturgy texts...

    Correction of Baptism

I have heard of those who are Orthodox and received through Chrismation being baptized afterward because their heterodox baptism was not in the proper form--not triple immersion, and thus the economia of the Chrismation was not correctly applied because it requires both the Trinity and triple...

    Nestorians in India

I remember reading, perhaps in a historical survey of Christianity in Asia, that, due to switching allegiance from the Nestorian Catholicos of Seleucia-Ctesiphon to the non-Chalcedonian patriarch of Antioch after throwing off the Portuguese yoke, the number and influence of Nestorians in India...
