Met. Philaret at Glorification of St. Xenia- 1978!

Wow, crazy!!! I very vaguely remember him, except for stories from my family.  My sis takes great pride in that he taught her how to snap her fingers.  It was great seeing all the clergy, many of whom are now deceased.  I recognized the deacons, wonderful men, one & all.

    Slava

For those of you who are to lazy to read the book, a slava marks the day your ancestors converted to Orthodoxy.  :-)

Reason #4,246 I'm Glad I No Longer Live In Massachusetts

<<sigh>> I miss New England... You might be a Bostonian if.... You think of Philadelphia as the "deep south." You think it's your God-given right to cut someone off in traffic. You think there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no R). You think three straight days of 90+ is a heat...

My visit to the ROCOR cathedral in San Francisco.

Tom, that's just disrespectful to Bp. Kiril (of San Fran), to bishops in general, and to priests as well, since they give out blessings too.

My visit to the ROCOR cathedral in San Francisco.

Just a warning, I'm considered pretty liberal for ROCOR :-P  But, if your offended by Russians keeping to their traditions, (after all, "R" in ROCOR stand for "Russian" and "Russia), why do you go?  We simply insist that people that visit respect our traditions.  ROCOR, at first organized to...

    Has anyone here quit smoking?

I still smoke, but not nearly as much as I used to.  I'm at the point where a pack will last me longer than a week.  I'm more of a social/drinking smoker, so now that I'm about 1000 miles away from my usual haunts where I would drink/light up, I don't feel compelled to smoke.  I cut back when I...

My visit to the ROCOR cathedral in San Francisco.

WOW, I have obviously been away too long. First of all, my friend who wrote the quote above... Look to your own jurisdiction and its problems before bashing mine. At least ours weren't headlines in the Chicago Tribune in recent months. Some...

Are You A Yankee or a Rebel

44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.  I guess living in Virginia for 4 years rubbed off.  :-D  A lot of my speech though apparently is from the New England area, not from upstate NY where I grew up... also, one of the questions, about the pronunciation of caramel, none of the answers fit... where I...

    Names for Children

If I ever have kids, which I hope I do, it'll be (and what my in-theory-so-far-non-existant-husband thinks, he'll just have to shut up, after all, I'll have to go through the labor)... Boys: (all family names) Diador, Roma (baptised, Roman), Crisanf, Nafanail, Alexandr Girls: Nebesna...

    Names for Children

A bit late, but just wanted to comment that this is the first time I've seen the name Lavrentia other than my cousin, who's parents call her Laurie, but was baptised Lavrentia, and who's saint is St. Lawrence.
