    Records of the Early Church?

There are lots of books on the subject, but one online resource is this one: http://www.ccel.org/fathers.html and this for additional writings of early Christians: http://www.ccel.org/p/pearse/morefathers/home.html

Why did you convert to Orthodoxy?

An interesting perspective that I think addresses your questions about Buddhism vis-a-vis Christianity/Christ: http://www.firstthings.com/article.php3?id_article=4056&var_recherche=among+world+religions As to why I converted to Christianity and not Buddhism, it's because I was seeking that...

The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture by Bart D. Ehrman?

MISQUOTING JESUS is a layman-level edition of some of the arguments Ehrman sets forth in THE ORTHODOX CORRUPTION OF SCRIPTURE, and also includes Ehrman's story of how he lost his fundamentalist faith. At the Evangelical Theological Society conference in November 2005, the representative from...

Hello, kamikat! Nice to see you over here, too. You're a bit ahead of me, as I still have my waverings back and forth, as you've read at CF. God bless you as you prepare for your chrismation. :)

    Suggestion for books

A more irenic (peaceful) book for understanding Orthodoxy that doesn't engage in the anti-Protestant and anti-Catholic polemics that some books do is: COMMON GROUND: An Introduction to Eastern Christianity for the American Christian by Jordan Bajis. Even though Bajis, who studied at St...

That preacher is full of skubala. Unbelievable!

The Greek NT uses pater, it never uses papa, so I think this argument can't be made. Abba is used in a couple places, but I think that's Paul in Romans and Galatians, not Jesus. (Don't have my Greek software to check this, though.)

Since Jesus, when giving the "Lord's Prayer," qualifies His first statement with "the (one who is) in the heaven(s)," it suggests to me that He is not preventing calling other persons "father." Otherwise, wouldn't He have just said, "Our Father, hallowed be Your name," etc.? This is not an...

    A Calvinist Looks at Orthodoxy?

John Calvin believed in and preached infant baptism. So did Martin Luther. If you think they were wrong about these things, why do you think they were right about what they said about Sola Scriptura (which is often taken these days to mean "Solo Scriptura") and the Church? Infant baptism was...

    Introduction and Question

Following is a speech - an "inspirational" - I gave at the office 5-1/2 years ago, when I was still actively involved in the Charismatic Movement. There are some facts about Parham and Pentecostalism's beginning here, as well as some useful links, hence I'm posting it here. Black History Month...

    A Calvinist Looks at Orthodoxy?

Some thoughts (not necessarily all of which respond to something you wrote): Read, e.g., THE SHAPE OF THE LITURGY by Dom Gregory Dix for the history of the evolution of Eucharist + the Lord's Supper, as well as when, why and how they separated. 1 Corinthians 10 treats it as a sacrificial meal...
