    Catholic Sacramentals

Here's a link to a book that talks about the storms during the opening and closing sessions of the First Vatican Council...

    Orthodox-Catholic Intercommunion in Pennsylvania?!

That's exactly right father, you are acting faithfully in guarding the most holy gifts according to the canons of the Church.  Not that you needed to hear that from me, but I just wanted to give you some support :)

    Church Unity!

dzheremi, It's good to see you on these forums, I didn't know you posted here as well :)  I once had a long discussion with an Oriental Orthodox brother on Christology, and after about two hours I realize that we were confessing the same understanding of Christ but with different terminology...

    Catholic Sacramentals

I would like to be more specific then and mention some particular devotions. Let's start with the Brown Scapular: http://www.carmelitedcj.org/saints/scapular.asp

WR Orthodox, a Rite or More?

Yes, that's exactly right.  I realize that it is impossible to make firm divisions between eastern and western Christianity, nor would it be desireable to do so, since the Church is catholic.  I do think however that embracing traditional western devotions, theological terminology, prayers, etc...

    Confused About the Rites

My own parish used the Liturgy of St. Tikhon before changing to the Liturgy of St. Gregory.  I was uncomfortable with some of the language used since I know the understanding of Cramner, a Zwinglian in his Eucharistic belief, when he composed it.  For example, "Take and eat this in remembrance...

WR Orthodox, a Rite or More?

I would like to hear everyones thoughts on the nature of Western Rite Orthodoxy.  My own parish priest seems to view the WR as a liturgical rite alone.  The teaching, preaching, catechesis, etc. is all drawn from standard (i.e. eastern) sources.  We also encorporate some Byzantine elements into...

    Catholic Sacramentals

Any more thoughts on why some devotions are acceptable and not others?  I personally don't find the need for devotions we use to be pre-schism.  One, the separation between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches took place over time so the question of what date we would use becomes problematic in...

    Catholic Sacramentals

Thank you so much, that will prove an excellent resource for my parish!  Without reading it, I would assume that his objection to the miraculous medal would be based on its connection to the Immaculate Conception?

    Catholic Sacramentals

Quite right!  I'm a member of an Antiochian Western-Rite parish that uses the Liturgy of St. Gregory.

    Catholic Sacramentals

I would like to hear opinions on the use of Catholic sacramentals for Western-Rite Orthodoxy.  My sacramentals I mean scapulars, miraculous medals, sacred heart paintings, and anything similar. Many thanks!

    Why Sarum?

Perhaps I'm misinterpreting their expression.  I blame the beards! (which I'm jealous that I can't grow properly btw)

    Why Sarum?

Many thanks father, this is exactly the kind of resource I was looking for!

    Why Sarum?

May I ask which Lutheran church?  I was LC-MS, and attended Lutheran high school and college.

    Why Sarum?

Thank you for the response.  My reason for asking this question is that it seems inappropriate to use a liturgy which developed in a Protestant context, so I wanted to know how much of it pre-dated that time.  I have absolutely nothing against the western-rite in principle, and am a convert from...

Sign of the Cross for Western Rite

The way Fr. Aidan described is also the way I was taught to do it in the Antiochian Archiocese, English usage (Liturgy of St. Tikhon).

    Why Sarum?

I would like to know what elements of the Liturgy of St. Tikhon came *after* Henry VIII and the English Reformation.  Thank you!

    Why Sarum?

Fr. Aidan, Would this be an appropriate place to address questions and concerns about the Liturgy of St. Tikhon?  I've just become a member of a wester-rite parish which uses this liturgy and would appreciate someone to dialogue with about it.

    Western Rite prayer books

Is there a western prayer book sanctioned specifically by the Antiochian Archdiocese?
