Could someone please translate the text here? I've been trying and failing for a bit here now.

I think.... it says:

БЕЗ СОЛИ - without salt
БЕЗ ХЛІБА - without bread
ПОЛОВИНА ОБІДА - only a half meal is had

... it actually rhymes... in both languages.

My words are in Ukrainian... so you would change my І for an И... and add Ь at the end of БЕЗЬ

Does that sound right? What kind of box is it?

Thank you Liza, I couldn't decipher some of the letters. I was wondering what it is. With that inscription it turns out it's a salt shaker. The silver stamps show it was made in Moscow in 1870.

He is accusing the person of being a glutton. Not kind.
Во-первых никого не обвиняю.
Во-вторых, если не ошибаюсь, на фото изображена бляшка ремня. Исходя из написанного на ней я и сделал свой посыл.
