Hello everyone...

Recently, several people received invitations to join Gmail the new 1gb email provider from google. People who are invited can then invite others, ad infinitum. I'm fishing for an invite if anyone has one. Thanks!

When the names were first coming out, they were selling on eBay for around $100. Now, so many people have invites that there's no money in selling it anymore. Most of the people who are getting in on it think that it is going to eclipse yahoo and hotmail, and want to get their preferred screename. I wanted one as I'm a big fan of the Google company.

1. They're planning on adding pop3 access for an additional fee after the service goes live.
2. It is reccomended that you archive all your emails using the service but it is possible to delete them, all you have to do is move them to the trash or spam folders. From there you can either directly delete, or both of those folders are deleted every month automatically.

So far it's working very well. I really like viewing emails as threaded conversations and having the ability to search for a particular email using the google search engine.

Joe,

If what Dave described earlier is correct, that means that all these new Gmail users now have the ability to invite people... I haven't received my invite yet, so I don't know this for sure, but perhaps one of the other fellows who is now on Gmail can invite you? :)

I think it'll take a week or so for us new users to receive invites...when I do(after I give my roomate his) I will give them away to anyone here who wants them in order of the request.

Donna, you have an AOL account! I thought you had taste. It must be a blow to the pride of the Cap'n, the computer geek [/i]par extraordinaire[/i]. I'll give you an invite if for no other reason, pity. :D

LOL I have an AOL account out of pure laziness...I didn't ever wanna check more than one email account, and it's the one I've had the longest. I even have my NYU mail forwarded there. But I am beginning to think "GooGrrL223" isn't the most professional sounding name. LOL So it's time for a switch, and like you I want first dibs at my name. ;) It sounds like a male-dominated email provider thus far, if OC.net is any indication, so hopefully I will have no problem getting "[text redacted for privacy]" or whatever.

And don't take my lack of computer prowess out on the Cap'n! ;D He is slowly but surely helping me mend my ways (starting with periodic fix-ups of my poor abused laptop and PC at home hehehe - I love you baby! :))

So yea, when invites become available, please send one along to me... Frobie, if you do have one more, I'd be most obliged. :)

THANX SO MUCH FROBIE! :) hehehe

Kim~ Gmail is a new email service provided by Google, that provides 1 gigabyte of storage space, the ability to search for emails, and it displays emails and replies as conversations (like threads)...and it's FREE! If one is in the market for a new email address, you can't ask for better. :) BTW I miss you here at the site! :) :) :)~*Donna

You'll have to wait about a week before you get your own invites.

For those of you who have your gmail accounts, what are your initial impressions? Here's what I think:

Pros:
The threaded conversation way of viewing emails is very nice
The ads are not intrusive, half the time I don't even see them
Search feature works really well(well duh, it's Google)

Cons:
I would like a little more detail in the contact list
You can't send executible files(unless you rename them as text files) but that is done to prevent virii.

So far I'm very pleased.

I just got one from Frobie. I love it!!!!!!!

BTW I will be maintaining my yahoo account for now and using the gmail one for just me and a few friends until I am sure I want to transfer over completely. Therefore you can still contact me at the addy in my profile.

Ok thanks David...

how does one delete something? I know the whole archiving bit and there is so much space there is no need to delete...but what if I WANT to delete something?

It's not difficult. Move the email to either the spam or trash folders. From there it will delete automatically every 30 days or you can delete it manually once it is in either of those folders.

Thanks Frobie,

Now I'm plagued with the difficult decision of choosing a good name. Hey if anyone's got suggestions, I'll take 'em!

how about Nektarios2? Nektarios is already taken (by me!) so that is the second best option.

Sorry, folks, TomS got the last one. I would have sent you one, Bogo, but I didn't see it till afterward. Looks like you'll have to wait 13 days since you're Old Calendar. :)
