An Open Letter to the Assembly of Bishops

Greetings in Christ, Your Eminences,
In preparation for the Episcopal Assembly meeting in October, we felt the need to write this open letter on behalf of the thousands of other faithful Orthodox Christians throughout the United States who have been greatly scandalized by the actions of some of our bishops, and the lack of action by others.

I do not put much stock in an anonymous letter.

If you are too afraid to put your name at the bottom of a letter, you can't expect bishops to take much interest in what you have to say.

Are the concerns laid out things that are prevalent? Or are they more isolated? It seems to lose its deferential tone about halfway through, too.

Why is it anonymous. If you stand by your words, and so proudly defend the Faith... why are you hiding?

Whomever they are... they did make some good points, others... not so much.

I am certain hierarchs are doing the best they can in these unprecedented times.

This letter is a joke and an attack on his eminence. Even though the group of BLM is a far leftist bunch. That doesn't detour the bishop from acknowledging the fact that Black lives do matter and that they deserve equal treatment from the police state we call America.

A lot of the letter simply begs the question of how seriously we should take the Coronavirus (and why), which should be addressed before making any criticism against any hierarch. This letter assumes we shouldn't take it seriously, which many hierarchs disagree with. That said, I think some criticisms against the archbishop are valid; he should never have had a Divine Liturgy in an Episcopal church, and he should never suggest that people who are not Orthodox Christians can take communion (I see his understanding, but no.) It is also hypocritical that he marched with hundreds (maybe thousands) of BLM protesters gathering together while not allowing his own flock to gather together in parishes.

Rubbish worthy of neither perusal nor reply. Anonymous therefore worthless. This is an affront to the dignity of the hierarchs, and a grotesque provocation by a coward.

The context of Abp. E’s remarks about communing non-Orthodox must be considered. He never stated this officially but at a fundraiser banquet for the Leadership 100 whom he was canvassing for substantial funds with which to complete the St. Nicholas Shrine. One of the gathered grandees, putting the hierarch on the spot, asked him about (presumably his own) Roman Catholic spouse. How would you suppose Elpidophoros would respond, when the man put him on the spot at his most vulnerable moment?
