Hello all!  I was just thinking about how we could give a sounding board to the general population on a regular basis.

The "ministries board" thread was a nice "wake-up call" for me on this topic, and I thought i'd survey the crowd to see what y'all think.

Praying for a blessed Feast of the Entrance of Christ into the Temple for all of you!

This seems ideal for the person who asked about Mod info and Bios....

and less ideal for those mods that answered 'none of your beeswax' to that thread.

I thought I was fairly clear, but perhaps I was not.

There have been some complaints that the moderators are "missing" or not totally involved with the rest of the posters.  I would like to take an opportunity to dispell that belief and also to make the moderators available for people if they want to discuss general topics in relationship to this site.  Everything from the Rules, to how they are moderated, to what the moderators are having for coffee that afternoon.

It's more of a "town-hall meeting" kind of set-up, but without the voting and decision making.  Rather, a change to just get together and talk.

I hope I have made this more clear!

Please vote as well!

It was me, or at least I'm one of those, who asked for moderator bio information. Let me be clear why: Everyone has some area of specialization or at least area in which they have a vast store of knowledge that others might benefit from. For example, one moderator here has been clear about having done work related to addiction. This is the sort of relevant information that might lead someone interested in the topic to get in touch with them.

Unfortunately we have been called to task for those same skills, used for the opposite purposes that they were intend for.

So some of us have some...adverse reactions to the question.

I have no idea what the question is about.
It is an old historical reference.

President Roosevelt tried using the radio as a way to deal with the Great Depression.
You make it sound older than it is!  That wasn't all that long ago, really.  People growing up then are still alive now.  That's who we really ought to have fireside chats with.

ETA: barring that, I'd say the moderators are a fine substitute.    ;)

No -- because first, we either need a Commander-in-Cheif elected or, a Patriarch!

And honestly (*whispering*) I think all of the Moderators are too young for the job........

One thing I can assure you of from my experiences is that as forums go, OCNet has more competent moderation than most.  This should not be read as my implying moderation is perfect, or that it could not be improved; rather, as a participant on other forums I will say this is one of the better ones.  Part of what makes it good is that moderators tend to participate in the discussions they moderate, and actively try to improve the quality of them, and advise us when we meander a bit, as opposed to ban first, ask questions later.

The only thing that age alone qualifies you for is a free bus pass. ;D

I don't see how you have friendly chats when the forums will barely let me post anything.
