Brushing your teeth is a modern, western invention. Do you think St. John Chrysostom brushed his teeth? No! He had a black-toothed grin and was proud of it, like any ascetic would be!  These modern innovations which are so focused on looks and bodily appearance must stop!

Oral hygiene methods have been used since pre-historic times.  The advent of the toothbrush may be relatively innovative and modern, but the important issue is the hygiene rather than one's vanity.

I'm sure hygiene of other bodily orifices is equally important, even for a Patriarch.

At least he brushes his teeth and doesn't "wash" them.  It's best when you use a brush in such cases.

How can you know? Have you ever seen a prehistoric man using a tooth brush or mouth wash?
