Today is the feast day of St. Patrick, a holy day of obligation for Irish Catholics since the 1600s. So to all you Irish Orthodox who post here, Happy Day. :)

Can we go about greentexting if it's St. Patrick's Day?

St. Patrick is one of my favorite saints. I stand near an icon of him at church.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I managed to find out my paternal ancestors immigrated to the U.S. from County Cork in the 1800s.  My grandfather told me I'm descended from a long line of drunken Irish Catholics.  ::)

Hooray, some of my people on Dad's side of the family are from Cork too! The rest are from Killarney. My Mom's side of the family is from Palermo, Sicily, which means I can have fun on St. Lucia's Day, too. :)

My maternal ancestors were from Germany as well as my paternal grandmother who is actually a German immigrant, so I'm actually more German than Irish, though I don't sprechen zie Deutch.  My mother said that my paternal grandmother suspected her of being Jewish with a maiden name like Diehl.

Me: Dwyers from Tipperary.

I believe Baptist or Quaker, but they were not Ulster. They fled the famine.

O Holy Hierarch, equal of the Apostles, Saint Patrick, wonderworker and enlightener of Ireland: Intercede with the merciful God that He grant unto our souls forgiveness of offences.

Bantry on my mom's side (by way of a generation as domestics in England) and Ulster on my dad's. Probable royal blood in there somewhere.

BOW BEFORE ME, PEONS! I AM YOUR ARD RI!

So I accidentally ran over a snake yesterday. I couldn't help but think that maybe St. Patrick would have been pleased.  ;)
