Christ is in our midst!!!

Hello from Malaysia!!! I'm Collin Michael Nunis. I'm Portuguese-Eurasian on my dad's side and Chinese on my mom's side. I'm a 21-year old IT student from Malaysia who's a "drifting Catholic" and has eventually found his footsteps to Eastern Orthodoxy. I've been reading much about Orthodoxy and from the looks of it, I hope to end up in the Church where we got our name as Christians: Antioch (Acts 11:26).

I can't type much as I'm doing something else Java-related but I hope to be active in the forum from time to time. Till then, God bless everyone!!!

Ahh, a man after my own heart. ;D  I'm also quite active in the IT field (aspiring to a career as a .NET application developer).  Welcome to OC.net, Collin, and, as Αριστοκλής said, post whenever you can.

What i said was "Wow, you speak Malay... Actually I'm not sure... Was it Indonesian? Where are you from?"

Sorry, haven't exactly learnt C#. I only did Advanced Java this semester.

I live in the Blue Mountains, 100km west of Sydney.
When you're in Perth, check out the Antiochian Parish of St. Anthony the Great in Waterford. It's an English speaking Parish.

public String TranslateToEnglish(String MalayText)
{
    String strTranslation = ...;

    return strTranslation;
}

Actually, C# and Java both follow very similar syntax rules.

Ebor, no worries... Not many people know of Malaysia anyways.

Ozgeorge, I did my research and yes, it did lead me to St. Anthony Waterford. The priest is Fr. Ted Doncaster, whom I understand is an Englishman. I will probably make home there once I land in Perth.

Jibrail, awesome stuff. Good to know that someone speaks Malay here... hehe.

Peter, you're good... but you're taking C# a little too far...  :p

Hi Collin, and welcome!

I don't know any Malay, although I did have two wonderful students from Malaysia, one undergrad and one Master's... both male and both ethnic Chinese. They took my Immunology class and made A+, and they also did some very high-quality research in my lab. One of them was a co-author on a paper we published in an immunology journal. He also won the first prize for the best undergraduate research presentation at a regional microbiology association meeting.

I am in the US, originally from Ukraine (first generation immigrant, still a Ukrainian citizen), speak Ukrainian, Russian, and, as of late, some Redneckian/Hilbillian under a highly professional direction of Gabriel, Ytterbiumanalyst, Fr. Chris and other great guys from this forum. :)

Blessings of our Lord may always be with you,

Heorhij/George

I'm guessing "kalian" is the word for "you." Are there multiple forms of "you" like in the Romance languages?

And with you too. Christ is in our midst!!!

Well, I hate describing people according to race in Malaysia and I definitely hate stereotyping. But it seems that if there's anyone who would make it overseas, it would definitely be the Chinese and Indians. They are very very hardworking and end up making it elsewhere. While they are sometimes blamed as the cause for braindrain, you can't blame them for finding success elsewhere as they aren't appreciated in their homeland. Sad reality.

In Spanish, there are four:

, informal singular form (used with friends and family);
Vosotros, plural of ;
Usted, respected singular form (used with strangers, acquaintances, and superiors); and
Ustedes, plural of usted.

Which of these is most like kalian, or is it completely different?

Welcome Collin,
Great that you found us! I never been in Malaysia, but I met some really good people from your country. Just as Heorhij described - they are very smart, friendly and hard-working.
I am also a Ukrainian, who lives in USA, currently in Boston. Quite different weather from sunny and warm Malaysia!
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
