Hi all,
what would be the appropriate way to begin and end a letter to an Orthodox priest, in Russian?
It is going to be a physical letter, not email.
Also, the sender is not an Orthodox christian, but Catholic - I do not know whether this plays any role.
Would the Russian equivalent of "Bless, father" be acceptable? What would it be in Russian?
I suspect this questions might have been answered somewhere already, but I am not successful finding the answer.
Thank you!

There's always the orthodoxinfo article....

I have serious doubts about how applicable the suggestions are for most places/groups these days though.

Thanks for the link, Asteriktos. But I plan to write the letter in Russian. Yeah, it will no be great, but I hope understandable and there are translation programs that help a lot. I am just really unsure about beginning and ending the letter.

The letters always begin with a salutation. "Glory to Jesus Christ!" if outside a feast day celebration. Otherwise, "Christ is Risen!" "Christ is Born!" "Christ is Baptized", etc.

Then you would simply ask for blessing... hierarch or clergy.

Since this is a priest, a simple "Father bless" would suffice.

I cannot help you in Russian... but, in Ukrainian it would be:

Слава Ісусу Христу!

Отче благословіть!

...followed by the body of your letter.

Finish it off by asking for his prayers, and if a Christian, than you can state "in Christ".

________

Body of letter...

Please keep me in your prayers.

In Christ,
Joe
