Self-explanatory, it's a thread for art that has Orthodox elements or themes (no icons or photographs)

"Holy Communion" (2009 )- don't know the artist.

"Holy Friday (La vestale chretienne)" (1885) by Theodore Jacques Ralli. I love the fallen candle.

"St. Olga" by Mikhail Nesterov.

Another Nesterov - "A Hermit with a Bear" (1925).

"Confession" (no artist name)

And finally, for Mor Ephrem:

"Fourth Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon" (1876) by Vasily Surikov.

---------------------

I have plenty more in my vast Pinterest.

Vision to the Youth Bartholemew (1890)

I love Nesterov.  There's a starkness to his paintings, especially in facial features, that I like.

The Church at Lake Sevan

Eternal Flame (Yerevan) / Gomidas Vartabed

The Slav Epic by Alfons Mucha is delightfully trippy at times, but has a lot of strength through the whole series.

No. 17, The Holy Mount Athos, (1926)

I love this thread! This is great. I want to track some of it down to put up in our apartment. My wife will love it. I was actually thinking of starting a thread on this, but kelly beat me to it!

Farewell to Rus, Pavel Korin

A preliminary sketch of a massive painting that was to be Korin's masterpiece. Unfortunately, he died before it could be completed. It depicts the last liturgy celebrated in the Moscow Cathedral before the Soviets ended it.

42 years he spent preparing but he never actually got around to paint it proper. Unfortunate, indeed.

I wonder how historical he meant the painting to actually be, given that the three Patriarchs of his lifetime, St. Tikhon, Sergius, and Alexius I, seem to be depicted vested as such simultaneously. I can't say I recognize any other famous figures, anachronistic or not, but I'm sure they're there.

Neat! I didn't know there were Coptic artists. I had been searching Google for art by and about Middle Eastern Christians, EO and OO, and didn't find anything (except, of course, the Armenian paintings by Mary Zakarian above).

Ya, he's very interesting.  He's using a bit of Coptic style art used in iconography to depict everyday Egyptian cultural practices and gatherings.  So his is not necessarily religious.  This is the only one I can find of his that is religious.
