I think that's the door frame.

Its a dagger. And he's pausing and looking at the shadow on the back porch from the one who just snuck out, leaving the hat behind on top of kitchen shelf.

Christ's body is a mere shell. The "real" Him is trapped inside.

The 'real' Him is just about to leave.
On bottom left side of painting is written 'John 19:28-30'.

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

So Christ's body was just a mask?

Yeah, but he was being sarcastic when he said that.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I stated the reason why I didn't like this picture.

That's what I get for not refreshing my memory or scrolling up. :)

Oh, you made it! :) That's awesome. Do let us know more about your painting career. Do you have a personal website? Where can people purchase your works?

Actually, self-promotion without permission from Fr. George is against the rules, but Hermit may put a link in his subscription if he likes.

I have no painting career. Have only made about ten oil paintings in my whole 67 y.o. life. I don't sell my artworks, a few of them were made for others as a gift, the rest are not for sale. Now that I am retired, I am now considering to spend what time I have left doing oil paintings of similar genre.
