I refuse to believe there could be anyone, let alone 1000+ people, running around the U.S. with that (birth/legal) name

They are all converts. Well, one became a monk and kept his name, but still.

The last picture taken of Machado de Assis, the greatest Brazilian writer. The grandson of freemen born into slavery, he was described by Harold Bloom as the greatest black author of all time. Even though death certificates didn't usually include race back then, the mortician made sure he was registered as a white man.

What would be a work by him to start reading? I've never read anything of his.

His most famous work is Dom Casmurro, but I prefer The Poshumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas, a.k.a. The Epitaph of a Small Winner, which is curiously also listed by Woody Allen as one of his favourite books ever written. Both are sharp dark comedies written as memoirs. Dom Casmurro is the extremely disconcerting story (almost a psychological thriller) of a paranoid husband who suspects his wife of cheating on him with his best friend, while The Posthumours Memoirs is the biography of a pessimist, written beyond the grave. His third great novel, more highbrow, is Quincas Borba, a smart parody of 19th-century scientism.

I'm a bigger fan of his short stories, though. My favourite ones are The Psychiatrist a.k.a. The Alienist, The Devil's Church and Life. The Fortune-Teller is also great and highly praised, but I personally don't rank them along with the others.

Yeah, Cali Columbia

(didn't mention the place because this could be any city in any country, it's just an example of how the beautiful 'from a distance' images on these 'Earth Porn' style pages often don't match how things are on the ground)

At the entrance of the Roman Catholic cathedral in Lublin, Poland. I don't know if such things are popular in USA, but in Poland totally no, first time I've see something like this and the photo caused laugh of my friends.
Ofiaromat (ofiara = offering/donation; mat - the ending for e.g bankomat i.e cashing mashine)

I wouldn’t have conceived of such a thing until this picture. 😵 I guess it’s not technically different than an offering plate, but... idk.

Found a cool meme about him in English.

I hate mushrooms, even on Pizza, so you can imagine how I feel right now... 🤨 If I think about them as some kind of alien entities they aren't so bad though 😇

Mushroom and ham pizza is my favorite kind. And I can eat a mess of mushrooms cooked in butter.

Kill it with fire.
I find spiders (or their close relatives) creepy when they're in the same room with me, but otherwise they're fine. Here's another delightful video for you, this one with tarantulas eating worms, attacking water bowls, and shaking their butts and dancing
