I saw once a t-shirt with the same text in a spiral pattern, gorgeous piece of work, and some Muslim had left a review on the site, basically throwing a hissy fit because he hadn't noticed it was a Christian prayer before he bought it. Something about fools and their money comes to mind... ;D

In Poland it's common in RC churches to sing on some occassions "Boże coś Polskę przez tak liczne wieki otaczał blaskiem potęgi i chwały..." (Oh God that has given Poland over so many centuries shine of power and glory etc.). I think it used to be sung also in some Orthodox parishes before the 2WW.
Serbian national anthem is "Boze pravde" (Oh God of the truth).
It's nothing surprising.

The parish I visited, yes.

I'm not gonna tell them they "can't" do it - it's not my parish, and I don't know if there is anything that morally wrong with it. I just think it defeats the whole idea of the "Liturgy being a preview of Heaven" kind of thing, and there are far worse liturgical abuses in Orthodox countries when it comes to patriotism, as Dominika just showed us.

The Liturgy is supposed to be a time to let go of all earthly cares, aside from praying for others.

Orthodox patriotism is nothign something bad. I mean patriotysm, not nationalism. We pray at every service for our homeland, their authorities and army....

No, I think Patriotism is completely healthy - provided that the government allows you to practice your religion. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being respectful and obedient to the authorities above you, and to pay homage to those who serve the government which allows you to practice your religion.

However, I think like most healthy, positive things - including the Liturgy itself (of which I'm guilty of this sin) - it can become an idol, that takes priority over Christ.

Yep, that’s so bad I would classify it as a liturgical abuse.  No Orthodox country has a flag worthy of being used in vestments and paraments; even the double eagle flag of the Ecumenical Patriarchate would be gross.  As liturgical abuses in the name of Romanian nationalism go, the only thing I could think of that would be worse than this would be if the clergy dressed up as Vlad Dracul.

Also using national flags in the liturgy screams ethnophyletism.  Would a Bulgarian or a Ukrainian Orthodox feel comfortable there?  And how can we possibly hope to evangelize the Turks or the Hungarians if we put on displays of this sort?

This is tasteful and completely acceptable.

The problem really with the Romanian paraments is they were on the aer and the chalice covers, some of the holiest vestments, intimately linked with the Eucharist.

On the contrary, I love them, and my favorite local parish, the one I had planned on joining, where I went for Paschal liturgy, and where I go as often as I can, is the Romanian Orthodox parish.  I’m very close to saying the Romanian church is my favorite EO church, musically speaking (at a minimum, they are tied with the Ukraine and Bulgaria, and are way ahead of Greece and the Ruthenianss; they do Byzantine chant brilliantly but also use a range of modern tonal compositions including the music commonly used in the Russian liturgy, and more modern compositions that sound closer to contemporary Greek four part harmony of the Tikey Zes-Michaelides sort everyone loves to hate on).

I also desperately want to see an English translation of the Romanian Philokalia, which has additional material not in the Athonite version.

Finally, I love the sound of their language: Romanian, French and Portuguese are my favorite Romance languages.  I also wish the Aromanians had services in their language.  Also the Romanian national anthem is one of my favorites, on a par with those of Italy, Belgium, France and Russia.

If I could live anywhere, a small town in the Romanian hinterland would be second only to a relative’s farm in Sweden.

What kind of additional material? I don't know any Romanian, but if we pretend it's just some Slav trying to speak an obscure Italian dialect, it gets easier.
