So apparently the mods at tasbeha.org have no sense of humour, so they deleted my satirical response to Mina's question - "I'm very curious to the tradition as to why we call St. Wanas "Anba"." (http://tasbeha.org/community/discussion/15784/anba-wanas)

I post my answer here in protest and for your enjoyment:

I don't know, but according to the Coptic Synaxarium, AD 2100 edition:

"Anba Wanas was a child general bishop.

"Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God."

Pope Tawadros III decreed that we have to ordain all males > 6 yo as bishops, so that they can feel involved in the Church from a young age, and to give our youth a voice in the Holy Synod (literally).

Due to the massive expansion of the episcopal service during Pope Tawadros III's reign, it was no longer possible for the Synod to meet physically in Cairo. In a move of sublime wisdom and divine inspiration, HH partnered with Apple to provide all the youth with iPads at a greatly reduced price. This allowed them to cast their vote on synodical resolutions from the comfort of their own cinema room. The Holy Synod app also includes a pornography filter and a music filter that replaces all secular music (including classical) with Christian music, eg Hillsong. This can be changed to Tasbeha by playing with the app's settings.

Of course, church decisions cannot be left in the hands of youth (or adult metropolitans and bishops, for that matter), so this voting system is more of an advisory survey for the benefit of HH the Pope, and is non-binding.

This once again proves that our Coptic Church is a truly global church, that continues to serve our youth in creative and innovative ways.

As Pope St Shenouda always said, "A church without youth is a church without a future"."

Anyway, Tasbeha.org has been dead for years...
Given the way it's moderated, I'm not surprised.  OC.net pwns tasbeha.org.

Oh, and btw, they can still get married after becoming bishops because the canons on celibacy only apply to diocesan bishops.
