So what's the deal with this guy? This link says that he fought under the blessings of the Orthodox Church (as well as the RC).

This book, "Why Angels Fall", says the following (pg. 213):

There is hardly a monastery on Athos that cannot boast treasures presented by Vlad the Impaler. The Orthodox world also remembers him as a doughty champion of Orthodoxy against Islam and Roman Catholicism."

Also, I heard that he is buried in a Romanian monastery. Is any of this true?

He flipped back and forth between Orthodoxy and Catholicism a few times.

he is reportedly buried at the monastery at Snagov.

Please forgive me, but wikipedia is so a mess.!
1 Vlad is not a national hero. He was a simple voievod.
2 He is not a saint, even a blessed. No one, in Romania, sees him like a greate defender of the faith.
3 He didn't defended the orthodoxy. He defended his oun country against the turks. Like his predecesors and his followers.
4 ,,Vlad Drăculea" is not equal with Son of the Dragon. ,,Drăculea" it is a diminutive from the word ,,drac" (devil, demon in english ). ,,Devil" is not equal with ,,dragon"
4 His cruelty was not worst than that of his contemporaries. He had the cruelty of the his times.

Yes it is, like the most of the romanian voievodes (rullers) of the Wallachia and Moldavia.

Vlad was a voievode of Wallachia, ruling mainly from 1456 to 1462.

No doubt he did build many Orthodox churches, as did all of the princes of Wallachia. He also fought in a lot of battles against the Turks. Again, nothing unusual.

He was 15th century ruling nobleman in an Orthodox land. His life has no relation to the fantasy novel that Bram Stoker wrote more than 400 years after his death.

A few years ago, the Romanian government tried to build a "Dracula" theme park to attract gullible Western tourists. It met with resistance from the Romanian Orthodox Church, scholars, historical societies, UNESCO, etc. etc., and its plans were eventually shelved.

That might have been when he was taken prisoner with his brother by the Turks.  His brother did convert.  Vlad's father was given an award from the Pope...the Order of the Dragon.  According to McNally and Florescu, he was called "Son of the Dragon".
