What do you get when you cross the Sex and the City shallowness with Kung Fu Theatre ridiculousness along with a heaping helping of vomit and superficiality?  Why that'd be Charlie's Angels II, thank you.  I haven't seen C.A. I, nor do I plan to, but I imagine it's more of the same drivel.  Can someone please invent a time machine so I can get back my night?

lubeltri, may I ask if you've ever seen the original "True Grit"? Just curious as to how the new one stacks up. Thanks!

Rented:

Flash of Genius - Very good

Into the Wild - Excellent

I had seen them both before, but enjoyed them just as much the second time around.

Hope to go see The Fighter and True Grit soon.

It was so long ago that I barely remember the original. I'm glad about that so I'm not comparing. On its own, the Coen Bros. remake is excellent. I thought the girl actress was mesmerizing, and Jeff Bridges was great. Wonderful cinematography, and very amusing and interesting screenplay. It is probably their most conventional film that I've seen, but it's very entertaining all the way.

I saw a sneak preview screening with critics.

I saw the King's Speech last night. A very well-mounted drama. Colin Firth was brilliant as King George VI, and I think he might win the Oscar. I loved this flick too.

When it comes out: Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life.
Yes, this one looks really good! Terrence Malick also directed the Thin Red Line, which was excellent.

I saw The Fighter, which was pretty good but not great. I was initially very interested in True Grit, but the more clips I watch the less I want to see it. Some of the acting seems a little too "hammy." The Coen brothers are kind of hit and miss in my book. Loved Fargo, and I also enjoyed A Serious Man; but often the Coen brothers try too hard to be "original", and thus they end up making more of the same. Just my opinion.

Ah, but the first one was more of the same drivel with Bill Murray playing Bosley.  That alone makes it like, 1,000x better than CA2.

Saw the new Tron recently.  Wish Disney had released a recent DVD of the original instead of keeping it locked in their Vault so I could have it fresh in my mind.  Still, not bad, especially in 3D.

Has anyone heard anything about this one? I'm not familiar with the director, but I do like Anthony Hopkins. However, Hopkins has played in some pretty bad movies, so his presence in this role doesn't necessarily mean it will be good. It does look interesting. The book sounds very good too. I do think I'll try to read it.

I hope it doesn't sensationalize too much Catholic exorcisms. Some of these exorcism movies can be pretty, pretty bad!

My favorite movie of this type was The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

I'll check this one out, though I will set my expectations low---it's getting released during the January "dumping ground" for bad movies. With Hopkins, at least it will be interesting!

I'm happy to report that the Coens were not trying to be "cute" in this film. It's a pretty straightforward Western---just exceptionally well made.

Recently saw the new The Taking of Pelham 123 (by-the-numbers mediocre).

I also saw Winter's Bone and The Queen (both outstanding, astonishing in their verisimilitude in the presentation of the very different worlds they inhabit).

The book sounds very interesting. If the movie stays close to the book, then it might be very good. I too thought The Exorcism of Emily Rose was very good. It raised some very intriguing questions, namely would God allow one of His children to become demonically possessed in order to reveal the reality of the spiritual realm to mankind.

I'm not a fan of Sean Penn's politics, and I also think he is slightly overrated as an actor. But I think he is a terrific director. I recently revisited these three movies directed by him, which I loved:

The Pledge
The Indian Runner
Into the Wild
(I think this is his best.)

I just watched most of "Full Metal Jacket" again .

I love Gunner Sgt. Ermey since he was really a Drill Instructor.. What a hoot he is. I love the new GEICO commerical where he is playing a Psychologist. He calls his patient Namby Pamby and throws a box of tissues at him.

Ummmmm..coarse language...to say the least : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfccLO6-YL0

He's really funny on "Mail Call," too! It's on the History Channel. He does explanations of military weaponry. Great show.  :)

Seem to be watching a lot of "war movies" lately.  I finished Gettysburg and am now in to The Bridge on the River Kwai. (maybe not technically a "war movie" but it's close enough)

Early preview of the documentary on the "Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer".  I can't wait until it comes to theaters or on DVD.  Excellent documentary!

I've been watching too many scary movies lately, since we got a new free channel, and there's my Netflix queue that I watch over the X Box thing... sigh.  ;D

Good, fun movie. Some slightly corny but entertaining lines. I also like that the girl kicks a couple of guys' butts, lol (didn't hurt that she was pretty easy on the eyes as well).

I was very disappointed with the re-make "300"...

"Wit" (Mike Nichols, 2001)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wit_(film)

A very strong artistic endeavour trying to reveal the feelings of a person dying of terminal cancer. The director is the famous Mike Nichols who made "The Graduate."
I thought this was outstanding. It also helped that I've had a crush on Emma Thompson for about 15 years :)

She is great in this, as is Eileen Atkins.
