Saw The Master last night. Still processing it, but here are a few brief thoughts for now:

-I liked the movie overall.

-It was too long. I don't mind long movies as long as the time is not wasted. This one could have been edited down to under 2 hours without losing anything. (The running time is 2:18.)

-Lots of nudity and graphic profanity. I'm never a fan of that, but it was appropriate (not essential) to the story. So be forewarned.

-I thought the movie nailed the complexities, psychology, and nuances of personality cults.

-Perhaps I appreciated the movie because I'm also currently reading a fascinating biography of Jim Jones and The People's Temple. Although the subjects of personality and ideology are different, the movie captures the essential human frailties and psychology that lies at the heart of most all false religions and cults.

-While the performances of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix were very good, I think the movie would have been better served with a lesser known leading cast. As good as they were, I still felt like I was watching Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. One of the things that made Schindler's List so powerful to me (and I realize many people don't like that movie, so we don't have to debate that here) was the fact that Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes were not well known at the time, so I didn't feel like I was watching actors.

-Ultimately, I would give the movie 3 stars out of 5.

Part III was the only bad Jurassic Park movie. While nothing touches the masterpiece that was Jurassic Park I, part II wasn't that bad and I enjoyed it. It had some good action scenes, nice story and a good follow-up that was based off of another book. But Jurassic Park III was pure, utter crap. Another one of those really odd, B-rated, almost laughably bad early-2000s movies like Van Helsing or Spy Kids etc.

The trailer for what may go down as one of the finest films in the history of ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FyGHAUpSIQ
(Don't watch if you can't take bloody violence, scantily clad women, and other such things.)

Is it a date, Asteriktos?

Jurassic Park 3 wasn't even bad. I thought it was a good film, just not as good as the other two. And I loved TLW:JP, it was closer to the first than you think, for sure.

I did.  It's actually cheaper than just the original.  I think the other two movies are crap,
I think the The Lost World: JP was VERY good, and I thought JP3 wasn't bad either, just not as good as the previous two films.

I wish they had followed the book for the second movie.  I thought Lost World stood up to Jurassic Park and held it's own.  They were conveying different messages along the same lines, which made them both good, IMHO.
I absolutely agree!

Watched Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies tonight. Not especially entertaining but not terrible either. I watched the whole thing, so it couldn't have been too awful bad. Some absurdities. Lots of gore. No nudity or bad language. A somewhat restrained (=good), albeit flawed, ending. It's on netflix right now... watch it if you like the idea of honest Abe leading a squad of union soldiers into rebel territory to behead dozens of zombies.

Watched "The Campaign" yesterday. Although it is about US ellection, it is amusing to see how politics there is similar to what happens here in Brazil. Only that here Obama is considered is considered right-wing, the socialist party is considered to be center and communist parties are the reasonable left. :)

Watched Nine Dead on netflix... sort of a horror-thriller-murder-mystery-thing. Wasn't that bad. The girl from Clarissa Explains It All was in it.

A Darker Reality - Frustrating horror/torture movie. Frustrating and whiny.

Senseless (2008) - Excellent torture-porn movie, and the social commentary (with multiple lines of thought) doesn't feel trite.

Dread - British horror movie about making people face their worst fears. A bit slow in developing, but overall it was enjoyable.

Vile - Torture-porn movie about what people are willing to do to live, even to themselves. Fairly enjoyable.

Still Not a Playa: The Life & Legacy of Big Punisher, a documentary from the early 2000s about the late rapper Christopher 'Big Pun' Rios who died on February 7th, 2001 from a heart attack in connection with his morbid obesity. The documentary tells about his rising from the slums into a literal lyrical heavyweight and also outlines some of the darker aspects of his life, like his explosive temper and physical abuse of his wife and bad relationship with his mother who forced him to deal drugs during his youth.

I'm not a hockey fan, but I really liked that movie. Well done and nice to be able to watch it with my children. I also remember that Olympics very well. I was 12.
