You do always seem to have some sort of hustle going on against your priest. He chants the Paschal greeting at improper moments. He chrismates too early. He likes Nickelback. Etc. I think it can be legitimately asked if you intend to assemble some sort reader assassin squad.

In some jurisdictions, that is worth considering defrocking.

This has nothing to do with my priest.  I just want to know who's a reader. There's no nefarious intent.  As to my priest's music tastes, I cannot speak.  But, if you like Nickelback, there's nothing I can do for you.

What's the difference (in the context of the lectorate)?

The tonsure enters you into the order of the clergy, and the ordination is into the specific office (in my case, reader).

Because the office of reader is often in-practice the lowest order of the minor clergy and the tonsure has to occur before the ordination, people have become accustomed to the phrase "tonsured a reader." It's not really a big deal, but the distinction is real.
